Chocolate Chess Pie with Maple Syrup

Since maple syrup time is here, we thought we would share this amazingly delicious and easy to make pie recipe. Instead of using a corn syrup, we use maple syrup and it makes such a wonderful chess pie! And it's so much better for you than the corn syrup.

We have to admit, this pie was so good that we made it two nights in a row! It would be excellent with homemade vanilla ice cream as well. Coffee would be good with it...
It would also make a sweet Valentines Day surprise!

First we melted the butter and poured it into the mixing bowl. If the butter is still real hot, I let it cool down to room temperature so the eggs don't start curdling and cooking when we add them in next.

So now we add three eggs.

Then we whisk the eggs into the melted butter until well beaten and creamy looking.

Next we add the maple syrup, vanilla and cocoa powder.

Whisking well until all the ingredients are well incorporated.

Into the pie crust that was already pre-baked, then pop it into the wood stove oven and bake until it is firm in the middle, about 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees.

And now for the recipe-

Chocolate Chess Pie with Maple Syrup
1/2 cup melted butter
3 eggs
3/4 cup maple syrup
2 tsp. vanilla
6 Tbs. cocoa powder
1 unbaked pie shell {we refer to our recipe in the Homestead Blessings Cookbook}
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees and pre-bake your pie shell.
Melt butter and pour into mixing bowl. When it is room temperature, add the eggs and whisk and beat until it has an almost creamy consistency. Add maple syrup, vanilla and cocoa powder. Stir until smooth and well combined. Pour into pie shell and bake for 35-40 minutes. The center should be set and a tooth pick come out clean when it is done.

Mmm! This pie would be perfect for one of those days where you just HAVE to have chocolate! My mom bakes pies every week for our family's farm stand, and often has extra crusts stored away in the freezer... How easy it would be to whip up this pie! Thanks!

Oh man that sounds so easy and yummy. Kinda like a chocolate custard pie. Gonna make this soon! I wonder how it would be to add chopped nuts to the mixture? Thanks for sharing. I love to see what all you guys are up to.
