Well, it has been a long, cold winter, but we stayed cozy and busy in the warm farmhouse and are very grateful for the beauty of spring! Thought we'd share some with y'all! Herb, Burdock, breaking through the warm earth. Yarrow, just beginning. A wonderful homestead herb. These make the first fragrant bouquet of the year. "Black Gold" from our worm bin. Worm castings make great amendment for lettuce. Sprinkle around the plant. Straw or hay mulch helps keep the moisture in. Spinach LOVES water! So water, water, water in well drained soil. Bluebell about to bloom. We found these in the woods near the river. Dandelion's yellow petals can be sprinkled on your salads- colorful and nutricious! "Johnny Jump-Up's" are everywhere in our garden. These too can be sprinkled on your spring salad. Hope you will take the time this spring to stop and smell {and eat} the beautiful and edible flowers!

You are so far ahead of us in the NC mtns. Spring is just coming; the daffy dillies are coming up and the wild cherries are in bloom. I am wondering if you start your seeds or if you use plants from a nursery... and now that I type this, it seems a little obvious, but could you share how you start your seeds, please?

Wow....I SOOOOO NEED TENNESSEE!!! Just a few states north of you in Indiana we are still pretty cold. No flowers have dared to poke their little heads up yet....I did put my 8 week old chicks out in the coop though...8 weeks in my bathroom was ENOUGH!!!! Blessings!!!!!

Hey V and Girls, a beautiful day today. With all the water of recent days, hubby and I took several of our hand braided rugs and washed them in the creek, and today I took the notion to wash my hair too, was great!!! Almost like a 'Tale' scene of our very own. "))))

I'm still waiting for our violas. They're just starting to come up where the sun has lingered longer in our valley. Once I get enough wood violets, I will make an infusion out of them and then turn them into a magnificent jelly. I do this also with clover and dandelions and may try lilacs and lavender this year, too.
